Westerpop 20th Anniversary Jubilee - Logo Design

Westerpop Delft 20th Anniversary Jubilee   - Final logo

Westerpop is an annual free music festival in Delft, the Netherlands. In 2009 it celebrated its 20th anniversary.  I was asked to design the illustrations on the crew t-shirts. By designing the illustration more towards a logo, it's possibilities grew.

The logo is used in the festival newspaper, promotional posters, t-shirts and flyers. The limited color scheme made it effective in media that didn't support lots of colors.

The logo was fully designed in Adobe Illustrator after some preliminary pencil sketches.

V&A Advocaten - Logo Design

V&A Advocaten - Final logo

Maurice Esseling contacted me in 2013 with great news. He started his own Rotterdam based law firm, together with several other fellow lawyers. They needed a logo designed together with stationary and a website.

In consultation with the lawyers, a logo with an strong emphasis on typography was chosen. This prevented us from taking the creatively very rough and difficult route to fit the business of Insurance and Liability Law into an appropriate image.

The slab serif typography, together with the limited color scheme and strong white space, resulted in an identity that is calm, well-considered and balanced. I also designed the stationary and website of V&A Advocaten.

Jaarcongres Trends in Kids- en Jongeren Marketing - Logo Design

20e Jaarcongres Trends in Kids- en Jongeren Marketing - Final logo

How to visualise a Dutch Annual Conference on trends in Kids- and Youth Marketing?

It took me quite some sketches and logo variations to decide to focus on the growing up of kids as the creative concept. For the actual logo design I took the liberty of using the classic scientific 'March of Progress' illustration as my inspiration.

I added bright, optimistic colors and focussed on the typographic emphasis on the word 'Trends' because that is the primary subject of the annual conference. This allowed me to decrease the size of the long sentence 'Kids- en Jongeren Marketing'.

The Tarifa Connection - Logo Design

The Tarifa Connection - Final logo

Tarifa is a small town in the province of Cádiz, Andalusia, on the southernmost coast of mainland Spain. It is primarily known as one of the world's most popular destinations for wind sports.

I was asked to design a logo for an online platform that connects wind surfers and kite surfers with events and restaurants and retail locations in Tarifa, Spain. This was before the rise of Facebook. The online platform is not currently online.

From the many variations I designed, this typographic version (wordmark) was chosen. The shapes of the characters represent the kites and flags on the windy Tarifa beaches.

Supershift - Logo Design

Supershift - Final logo

In 2000, during the rise of the internet, me and Marc Molenwijk founded Dutch web agency Suburban Media. With Marc in the role of ambitious Web Developer and me as a creative Designer, we where able to grow a successful business in designing and developing websites.

Later on, when partner Koen Borgman joined us, we changed the name to Supershift. A name aptly chosen because the business almost instantly shifted in the highest gear to even larger clients and several staff was quickly added to the team.

I left the company in 2007 to pursue other creative dreams but to this day Marc and Koen have been true to the original ambitions and have been growing the business ever since.

The icon stands for the ambition to deliver the best possible solutions. The extra bold typography represents the solid service and heavy weight talents in the Supershift team.

Stylingblog.nl - Logo Design

Stylingblog - Dutch Interior Design Weblog - Final logo

In 2011, my partner Janette van Tol and nowadays also the mother of my kids, used her passion for interior design to set up a (Dutch) weblog focussing on Interior Design.

It became successful and received a fair amount of shares and website visitors. But as with so many weblogs, it was abandoned when other, more important things demanded the attention of Janette.

In 2015 I decided to blow the dust off the weblog and started blogging on interior design myself. With my knowledge of webdesign, I re-designed the blog, choose a different blog platform and added some affiliate links. The blog was picked up by the audience again.

I left the logo I designed for Janette back then untouched. It was still relevant and unique. The 'S'-shape obviously is derived from the word 'Stylingblog' en the rings emphasise the focus of interior design on appearance and looks, while still protecting the core, creative product design.
